Angel Wings Tattoos
Angels - Besides their halos, ethereal glow and (usually) good natures, there's one key thing that really helps make angels stand out - their wings. Most of the time, angels are depicted with huge, feathery, angel wing tattoos. In fact, if you strip an angel of his wings and halo, he'd hardly be anything special at all.
The large tattoos of wings that people often have placed along their shoulder blades and backs are usually inspired by angel wings.
Spirituality - Due to their association with angels, wings are often used to denote spirituality. The nice thing about using wings for this type of symbolism is that you don't have to refer to any one particular kind of religion. In fact, you can leave religion out of it entirely, if you want.
Wings are, on their own, quite spiritual. When people see them, angels and other spiritual creatures come to mind. If you'd like to add a dose of spirituality to tattoo artwork, a pair of nicely construed angel wings is bound to suffice.
Most of us have heard the term "taking someone under your wing" before. The idea comes from the way that certain birds will shield their young by wrapping their wings around them.
Sometimes, this idea is literal - it means that another person is protecting you. Other times, it means that someone is serving as a mentor for you. At a new job, for instance, a colleague might take you under their wing until you get comfortable.
Either way, angel wing tattoos can be used to stand for this kind of concept.
Enlightenment - This idea is closely related to spiritualism. Some people believe that angels have to "earn" their wings. Only enlightened angels have wings, which is why wings are often associated with enlightenment. Some people get tattoos of wings after their eyes have been opened up by some kind of experience.
Inspiration - Since birds enjoy so much freedom thanks to their wings, many people find wings to be inspiring. This idea is reinforced by the fact that angels have wings, and angels are definitely inspirational. Wings can add a healthy dose of inspiration to tattoo art.
