Bird Wings - The number-one thing that most people think of when wings are brought up is birds. Birds exist throughout the world, making them an obvious choice when it comes to tattoo art. There are thousands of species of birds, too, and they come in a dizzying array of colors, sizes and looks.
From the diminutive hummingbird to the massive ostrich, from parrots in the tropics to penguins in the Arctic, birds are fascinating and inspiring. Watching a bird ascend into the sky is never boring; seeing a bird soar over a canyon is unforgettable. To think that most of those feats are accomplished with wings is largely what makes people so intrigued by wing tattoo designs in the first place.
Insect Wings - Look, most of us don't like insects. Creepy-crawly bugs just aren't something that most people are particularly fond of. That being said, there are definitely exceptions to the rule; funnily enough, most of those exceptions have wings.
Dragonflies, for instance, are generally agreed to be attractive and eye-catching. Their wings can be translucent or mirror-like. Ladybugs are another example of a bug that doesn't "bug" most people. In fact, you're apt to find ladybugs in many different works of tattoo art. When their wings are folded down, you can't even tell that they have them.
